My students are part of the dual language program in rural Eastern Washington; half are native English speakers and half are native Spanish speakers. They are paired with a bilingual buddy and are learning cooperation, teamwork and how to be a teacher as well as a learner. The dual language program is leveraging the strengths of our community to create biliterate adults. It all begins in Kindergarten. The students spend 50% of their day learning in english and 50% of the day learning in Spanish. Math is taught in English every day. There are 90 Kindergrtners enrolled in our dual language program and I teach multiple times during the day to all of them.
