Can teens actually make a difference in the world? Our students will be participating in a shared reading experience in their classrooms. We have been working to build a reading community and want to add The Outsiders to our list of mentor texts. We want to use The Outsiders as the centerpiece for our work with trying to get students to see past their world view. We want to use the issues in The Outsiders to bring in current topics of interest to help make the text relevant to all students. We also want to explore the different family dynamics that exist throughout the text. Exposing students to subcultures unlike their own is a powerful way to build understanding and compassion. Help us change the world one book at a time by making a donation to fund The Outsiders for our students.
