Currently, we have 4 school tablets in our class that we have been able to check out from the school to use at our reading center. Unfortunately, as we are approaching testing time more teachers will be requesting school tablets for their students to get the chance to practice, and we will have to return our tablets due to the shortage of tablets the school currently has. On our assigned day for testing, kinder students will be tested for the Speaking section using a tablet. Thus, making sure that our students get practice speaking to a tablet in response to a prompt in Spanish is crucial for them to get used to the format of the test in Spanish. Having our own classroom tablets would allow our students to continue to have this great access to prepare them for the AVANT test by listening to other native speakers talking to them in Spanish and recording themselves reading back the books in Spanish. Additionally, starting next week I'm planning to start pulling small groups with the tablets we have, to practice speaking and being recorded on their tablet to different AVANT practice speaking prompts that they may encounter on the test. Adding four more tables would allow more students to get to do these speaking practices, since both Carmen and I could pull groups of 4 students each time and make sure each of our students get the chance to practice doing this during the block of time we assign for this daily.
