Every student should develop a strong foundation for reading. Providing students with motivational and engaging books will create lifelong readers. This project will teach my Kindergarteners that readers read the world. A reader is someone who walks through the world on the lookout for things to read! Exposing students to books like Alpha Bugs: A Pop-up Alphabet by David Carter and My Very First Book of Numbers will engage students and encourage a love for reading. Students will be able to independently read and learn from these books and share something they learned, or a "wow" they discovered with a partner. For this project, we need books that will allow students to fall in love with reading as they explore these concept books and come to believe that they are readers. We are asking for concept books and board books in order for children to gain conceptual knowledge such as numbers, colors, and opposites. They will also have flaps, pulls, and features for students to explore as they learn about the world.
