We live in what is known as the Coastal Bend region of Texas, an area that is familiar with extreme weather caused by tropical storms and hurricanes. More than a year has passed since Hurricane Harvey hit and this region is still in a recovery state. Thankfully my classroom was saved from any devastating damage when it passed through Victoria; however, our instruments and equipment suffered from the aftermath of it all! Power outages, humidity, and water in the building has warped our bows and bridges, turned most of our strings to rot and damaged our warm-up books. Help me give my students new supplies and equipment like strings, bows, and books. If we were to get help funding for these necessities my students would be able to make quality sounds again on their instruments and won't have to share books/folders anymore. As an orchestra that does not have their own room (we play in a shared space with the band), we make do with what we have most of the time. But after the depletion of our supplies, we are too nervous to tighten/loosen a bow or turn a peg on an instrument for fear of something breaking or popping and us not having a backup. If the materials below were funded for us it would relieve this sense of anxiety and let us go back to just focusing on what matters most to us: music.
