Math has gone beyond adding 2+2. My students need hands on manipulatives to create projects and collaborate with each other to learn workplace skills. My active 2nd graders enjoy using their hands to construct buildings and are thrilled to put magnetic pieces together in a thousand different ways. The students are engaged and discover new ways to build items. Math manipulatives including math bingo, magnetic tiles and construction sets are easy ways to explore and learn. When children use materials in a physical way, they learn differently than when they sit and listen. Hands on learning is an important part of our classroom curriculum.
