My students need to be in a classroom that inspires them. They should be in a beautiful, comfortable space that makes them feel good to be at school. My dream is that my classroom will provide flexible seating for all of my students. Chairs should be movable, comfortable, and provide different options. I would love for there to be standing desks, bean bags, soft large pillows, and wobble chairs that students can choose from. I want to give my students flexible seating options to help increase engagement, attention and focus, and provide a positive classroom culture. My classroom would benefit from having wobble stools. Currently, my students sit for most of the school day and have limited opportunity to move. They have gym once a week for fifty minutes and have recess twenty minutes a day. On days where it is too cold or it rains, recess is inside where they have to sit and play games. I try to give my students a movement break during school, but it is not enough. Giving my students an opportunity to sit in a chair that helps and allows them to move would greatly benefit them in many ways. When a child sits on a wobble stool, they are constantly moving to maintain balance. They direct their natural kinesthetic energy and need for movement. Both sides of their brain are engaged in keeping their bodies centered. When the brain is stimulated, it is more focused on learning. This type of activity will encourage better posture which would help them pay more attention, process information, concentrate, and participate. For my children who fidget excessively or have difficulties sitting still, being able to move can be a game changer. Please support me!
