This year, we are introducing etching into our curriculum and students are eager to begin the process. I have expanded our printmaking curriculum to include experimentation with collagraph, lino-cutting, and etching. New this year, Art 1 students will be printing on PETG plastic boards using drypoint in intaglio. They will study drypoint works by Rembrandt Van Rijn, Albrecht Dürer, and the aquatint process by Mary Cassatt. We would love to have a robust freestanding printing press that can hold up to frequent student use and last for years to come. Our visual arts program currently has over 300 students on our rosters, and this donation will give all students the opportunity to use the printing press for their printmaking projects. One of the projects we planned this year was to create artworks of adoptable animals at a local shelter, and team up with that shelter for an adoption weekend event. Students will create etchings using photographs of the adoptable animals and create intaglio prints. Any sales from the event will go to the local animal shelter. A special watercolor print will go to any family that adopts an animal that weekend!
