We are a small, culturally diverse public middle school on Roosevelt Island in NYC. The students are residents of Roosevelt Island who have decided to remain in their local school, where most others have decided to relocate to schools in Queens or Manhattan. Most students are part of underrepresented populations and come from low-mid income households. Our mission is to gain positive experiences with tech by engaging in a culturally responsive computer-science education, to foster the knowledge and agency to contribute to our technological landscape in the future. My students are kids that have a passion for technology and solving community-related issues while engaging in exciting opportunities to show off their STEM skills.
