Replacing standard chairs with wobble stools in your classroom not only promotes engagement but also encourages the body to remain in motion rather than in a rigid sitting posture. According to research, flexible seating has improved sensory focus and awareness in children, along with improved test scores and classroom performance. Second graders love to wiggle! My students would benefit from having wobble stools as a seating option, especially during small group instruction. This would allow them to get their wiggles out, while simultaneously focusing on the lesson. Small group instruction is the time when teachers target specific skills or concepts that the small groups of students need the most! Full attention and engagement are imperative during this time.
