I will use these picture books to pique students' interests and provide a hook for my lessons. With these books, students will be able to connect ideas within the picture books with the grade level texts that we are reading. For example, the Sojourner Truth book will allow students to understand more about her as we read her speech, "Ain't I a Woman." This will allow them to have a clearer idea of particular standards that I teach, such as theme, imagery, figurative language, punctuation, and grammar and particular topics, such as the Great Depression, Transcontinental Railroad, Feminism Texts, Holocaust, etc.
