My students are 9th grade students in a freshman English class. They are ethnically diverse and at home speak languages that include: Tagalog, Vietnamese, Spanish, Farsi, Urdu, and Cantonese. Twenty-five percent of them were English learners at one time, and all of them are identified as Gifted and Talented students. My students are creative, intelligent, and work to rise to the academic challenges their teachers provide. Our high school is on the top ten list of achieving high schools in San Diego County, currently ranked at number nine; however, we are the only high school on the top ten list that is a Title I school, meaning we have a large percentage of students who come from homes of low socio-economic status.
