I teach a range of blind and visually impaired students. The majority of my students have multiple disabilities and require specialized equipment and materials in order to access their educational environment. My goal is to create an environment within the sensory room that supports and provides opportunities for visual growth. Many of my students are diagnosed with Cortical Vision Impairment which is a visual impairment due to a brain injury. These children respond best to items with bright color, light, music, and movement. The Water panel, Jellyfish mood light, and the Supernova color changing sphere all have key elements needed to gain the visual attention of a child with CVI. Visually impaired students will benefit greatly from these materials, but they will also be availible to all the students accessing the sensory room.
