My students are wonderful kids. They are juniors, they love to debate modern issues, but they hate to read. I want to change this by showing them that books can be fun, interesting, and relate to their lives. My students, when engaged in the material, create surprisingly high level work. They like to be challenged and will rise to that challenge. Because they attend a title-1 school, many people discount them- but my students are the underdogs, who never give, dream big, and will accomplish those dreams. My students are incredibly compassionate and they care very much for civil rights, helping those less fortunate than them, and doing the right thing. Sometimes they make bad decisions, but they are not bad kids. They are in need of materials that will foster their critical thinking skills and adults who encourage their ideas.
