I teach at a separate public day school for students with severe, profound and multiple disabilities. The students at my school come from all around our county in order to receive the services my school has to offer. Students not only participate in the adapted academic areas(reading, writing, science and math) and specials (art, music and PE), but also get therapy services as needed, aquatics and weekly trips into the community to enhance classroom instruction. The students at my school are nonverbal and use voice output devices and other assistive technology to work on communicating choices. Throughout the day, students are helped into various pieces of adaptive equipment allowing them to sit, stand, take steps, or lie down as needed. Students participate in activities with hand over hand assistance from the staff working with them in the classroom.
