These supplies, in conjunction with a lesson on stress and anxiety, will help create a calming environment for students to try different coping strategies. I will work with about 25 students at a time to share techniques that will help with stress and anxiety. This year, I learned that nearly half of my students need assistance with anxiety and/or stress management. A version of this lesson will be taught each year, and the supplies will be used to create a calming space near the school counselors offices while not in use in the classroom! This space will be utilized by any student in need of a calming space, and also for small groups. The candles and curtains will be used to eliminate the need for fluorescent lighting, and the carpets will create a comfortable area for floor seating.
