Allowing students to make choices, even as small as their seat each day, allows them take ownership of their learning. They can find what works best for them to focus and be comfortable. I have given choices in the past from a standing table, sitting on pillows, to lying under their desk and it truly increases their engagement and decreases distractions when they are comfortable. The seating options I have chosen will allow my students to make decisions each day to control their learning. I would like to continue the growth I saw my first year of teaching with giving my students ownership of how they learn.
