The adapted terrier tricycle will make a great difference in my students' lives. Riding a tricycle is an enjoyable activity that provides many benefits to a disabled child that they would otherwise not have access to. Riding the tricycle allows the students to flex, extend, and stretch their extremities which is crucial for disabled children as their muscles are incapable of keeping up with bone growth. Immobility creates contractures which is further disabling. In cycling, the hips, knees, and ankles practice muscle activation and motor control in similar patterns to walking. Cycling will also help my students feel as if they have some control of their own movements. Motor planning, knowing their school environment and making some choices about whether they would like to go left, right, or straight will improve their self esteem. To sum it all up, cycling would help my students physically and mentally. Unfortunately for my students, standard tricycles without the support apparatuses for trunk control and pedal pulleys are unusable to them. Therefore, I would like to request the adapted tricycle for them.
