My students will learn the science and application of concrete. They will take their knowledge and use it to support their local community. They will work directly with the trowels, brackets, and mixer to make a sidewalk in front of a nearby elementary school. They will donate their time to grade the dirt, build the forms, pour the concrete and stamp the concrete pads with the schools Mascot footprint. They will be calculating the material costs, labor costs, and submitting mock estimates for this project. All the labor and materials will be donated by the students. This project will give the students a real life experience with submitting a bid and following through with the material purchase, labor and completion of a construction project.
