I'm so excited to be able to start teaching my students about coding and engineering. We have a small unit about what engineers do, but it focuses mostly on structural things. These bee-bots and mats will help students learn about basic programming and directionality. Bee-bots are bound to be the belle of the ball during our math and STEM station time! During our math station time, I am working in small groups to help meet the specific needs of my students. It is critical that during this time, students who are not working with me, are still learning on their own at a station. I just know that the students will love to use these programable bees during this time! One activity I would like to do with these bees is to make an number mat for them to run on. Students would pull a card that has a simple math problem on it, solve it, then program the bee bot to go to that number! What a cool way to integrate engineering into daily class! To top it all off, our classroom mascot is the "busy bees"! How perfect is that!
