I am a first year teacher within my school district, teaching Transitional Kindergarten (TK) comprised of 4 and 5 year old students. My list of supplies, starting out on this journey teaching TK, has been minimal. I have found that early learners thrive on the opportunity to express themselves creatively through art, though my supplies for art are very basic. I would love to be able to help foster the love of art in my students and give them a chance to express themselves through multiple mediums of art. The students that I serve have varied backgrounds, experiences, and means to express themselves. By providing my students with a variety or art supplies, I will be giving them a chance to create and communicate ideas, values, and use their imagination! This project's requested materials will supplement the district adopted curriculum for TK, visual arts curriculum. We teach the principles of art while integrating all other important content areas but using visual arts as the grounding tool. The materials I am asking for are focused around a 4-sided easel. This is a very important item to help aid my young learners in the development of their fine motor skills, large motor skills, creativity, as well as cognitive skills. The assorted color paints and paint cups will allow students to have some autonomy in creating art pieces on the easel. The finger paints will give my students a chance to mix creativity with sensory! The aprons I am asking for will help shield my students' clothes from rouge paint but will also help my students learn how to put on their own apron and then hang it back on a hook when finished (an important self-help skill!). All of the art supplies I am asking for will be used across all contents!
