As a community, educators are using interactive notebooks to replace textbooks. Studies have shown that classrooms that use interactive notebooks have increased student engagement, content retention, and student mastery. Interactive notebooks act as a personalized textbook that combines the use of guided and doodle notes, foldables, student input, and lots of colors. Students can add emphasis on the things that matter most to them and have a place to capture all of their learning. It also allows me to visualize their learning. Nearly every day, students are adding content to their notebooks, from topics on generating equations from graphs and tables to identifying functions to calculating interest of bank accounts to calculating the surface area and volume of real-world objects. Students benefit from the structured guided notes and foldables as they are able to focus on the main points, and it is a great way to accommodate both English language learners and students who receive special education services. The interactive notebook is the center of my classroom. To make it possible, it takes a lot of paper, glue, and highlighters. Please help me engage my students by donating to our project.
