These materials will allow us to expand our quilting knowledge and create more in depth projects. As we master our craft we plan on making quilts to donate to local hospitals and organizations. Having sewing machines with allow us to make larger quilts and more of them. Additionally, we need an iron to be able to press our seams and create a quality finished product. Currently, we are sewing entirely by hand. Quilting as an art has allowed generations to tell the stories of the people who made them. The young men and women I work with are enthusiastically learning to sew and are looking forward to expanding their skills so we can create our first quilt. Each member is making blocks that will be joined together to tell our story. We meet two hours a week and are already moving so quickly. I have no doubt that the addition of sewing machines, will allow us to finish many projects to share with our community. Student members have expressed a desire to create baby blankets for local NICUs and larger blankets for elderly patients.
