One of the ways that we differentiate the general education curriculum for our special education students is by using a digital curriculum to target missing skills. Many students require the use of "read aloud" accommodations, due to significant delays in their reading levels. These accommodations are significantly easier to provide when students can use the computers to read aloud information to them. Following words, and hearing them read, provides access to much higher level concepts before they are able to access them independently. We also use the headphones to access phonics instruction, which allows our special education and ESL students to hear the correct pronunciation of words, and learn to build words for themselves.
