This year, our school has adopted a new reading curriculum. One of the exciting parts of this curriculum is that the kids get to practice the skills they are learning during the lesson during their own independent reading time with the text of their choosing. I would really love to be able to have all different types of text for them to choose from. My class could benefit greatly from reading current children's magazines. I have researched magazines that are most effective for use in the classroom and also most interesting for 3rd graders. The magazines I have chosen are: Time for Kids, Owl, ChickaDEE, Cricket, and Jack and Jill. These different magazines contain nonfiction articles, poetry, current events, short stories as well as writing from people their age. I have come up with a list of magazines that I think they would enjoy. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to provide them all myself. If you are willing, I would really appreciate if you could sponsor a one-year subscription for our class.
