I teach 92 eager fifth grade boys and girls writing each day. They have a wide range of abilities and needs when it comes to writing. They all have one thing in common; they want writing to be fun and engaging. I need technology to support their learning. A laptop, projector, and document camera are becoming the standard in classrooms to provide learning for audio/visual and visual learners. Out of the 25 classrooms at our school, only one has this technology. With state and local budget cuts, we teachers are looking to private donations and grants such as the Chevron Classroom Challenge, to help move our students forward in the 21st century when it comes to technology. Technology is one of the three goals of our Superintendent, yet there is no money to buy it. If my class project was selected for the Chevron Classroom Challenge, I would share it with the other three fifth grades at our school. This technology would be sustainable year after year.
