Education has made a huge shift in which testing is largely done on computers. However, we are limited to the opportunities to use computers in our classrooms on a regular basis. Computers not only make lessons and activities more engaging and relevant to students, it also makes it more realistic to the ways they will be tested and allows them hands-on practice at answering questions on the computers. The old saying "practice makes perfect" is still relevant today. Kids need to "practice daily in the way they will be tested" and with the limited numbers of computers available, it makes it hard. As a math teacher, the struggle is not just getting students to be able to solve mathematical problems and be able to correctly calculate the answers, but it is also being able to transfer those answers appropriately and accurately into a computer in various styles of questions. We are beginning to have more and more programs that allow us do this, but the problem is we need computers in our rooms to practice this daily. While I would love a whole class set, and am appreciative of the times I can go the lab or have a cart checked out to me, If I could have these 8 computers to utilize daily, I could rotate at least a portion of my students daily and/or daily have "table" assignments in which they each utilized the computer for a few minutes.
