Most of my students have never been more than an hour away from their homes. They only know what it is like to live in an urban jungle with paved roads and city buildings. It is one thing to read about a large mountain or a great wall and it is another thing to see it with your own eyes. My students cannot afford to leave their community so I want to change the way that they can experience the world. Using a Virtual Reality headset I want to take my students on digital adventures through the world, through history, and through the future to influence their creative writing and visual arts. I want to give my students the ability to see Mount Everest, The Great Wall of China, and even the International Space Station. On the Oculus Quest my students will be able to use apps like Google Earth & Apollo 11 Quest to see it all. My students will never be able to actually visit these places, so being able to give them the chance of seeing them. Virtual Reality has come a long way in a short time. No longer are you required to have a high tech computer to run these simulations. Now students can encounter the world with just a headset from within our classroom. With the Oculus Quest I can have my students take turns using the headset in class with educational applications. Especially to build virtual world and use in our robotics and engineering class. Have experiences they would never otherwise even know it exist. Also with Chromecasts we can share the experience with others in the class by casting the video to our classroom tv.
