Flexible seating is essential to have in a Special Education classroom. Students need to be comfortable to learn. Flexible seating will help my students sit comfortably and focus during daily lessons. I try to give my students everything they need to have a great day, and having flexible seating will make doing that much easier. All of my students receive Occupational Therapy multiple times throughout the week. This is where they practice many different tasks such as holding a pencil to using their core muscles to sit in a chair. For many, sitting on a chair is a hard task. For my students sitting in a hard chair can be very uncomfortable, having various wobble chairs and balance ball chairs will give my students the comfort they needs to stay focused for a longer amount of time. My students will benefit greatly from having flexible seating in our classroom. Special Education students have needs that vary from General Education students, such as their ability to sit for a long period of time. Allowing my students to choose where they want to sit will help them throughout the school day and give them more independence that they strive for. Having flexible seating in my classroom will allow my students to be sitting comfortably while focusing on a lesson.
