The kindergartners that entered my classroom in August came with a huge range of interests and abilities, but they all want to play and have fun. Making a building out of blocks, while identifying and counting the shapes used to make the structure elicits excitement. Traditional worksheets do not engage these children. Therefore, more learning occurs when they have hands-on activities.
