Studies show that classroom design impacts student engagement. With flexible seating, students are afforded an opportunity to chose the best learning environment for themselves on a daily basis. What may work for one student on Monday, may not work so well for them by Friday. Giving students the ability to control their space helps them to invest in their own learning. With this project, I hope to provide the first step toward an environment that supports and encourages my students to be active participants in their own education. In order for students to become enthusiastic readers, they must first get excited about reading. This is why I have chosen the library to be the first phase of flexible seating for my classroom. Through this project, I would like to fund bookshelves with bench seating for students to sit in a group around a table with easy access to materials. I would like to provide them with a bright rug to make the space cheerful and comforting, as well as some new books to add onto the shelves.
