This coming year, 5th grade will be working on using texts as examples of improvements to existing technologies (innovations) and the developing of new technologies. They will work to recognize that technology is any modification of the natural or designed world done to fulfill human needs or wants. All students have enjoy learning how to code and this year, I want to take it up a notch and help them think outside the box! These Makey Makey boards allow students to unleash their creativity by using everyday common objects and turning them into controllers! Strange concept, right? Well, believe it or not, one of the first things they will build is a banana controller. Students will use a board, alligator clips, a USB, and common everyday objects to create a mini circuit that allows controlling of a keyboard, game, music, volume, and more! The company Makey Makey is a Massachusetts based company that was developed with a big dream: everyone is an inventor. These boards will help the students explore opportunities and promote the modifications or development of new ideas.
