Every year, special education teachers are faced with the same difficult problem. How do we appropriately serve a student who functions at a second grade level and one who functions at a ninth grade level during the same class period? These books are part of my solution to that problem. By having an extensive classroom library with titles ranging from lower elementary levels to upper secondary levels, my students can read novels that are not too difficult for them and hopefully learn to enjoy reading. Each month, my students are asked to read a novel within 50 points of his/her lexile level. Unfortunately, for the month of September, I did not have enough titles for students to choose from and some ended up having to read books that were either too easy or too difficult for them. These books will allow my students a wider selection to truly pick one they are interested at an appropriate level. Also, all books are on the "approved" list for my school district and cover many genres.
