I am asking for every third grader in my class have access to their own Chromebook on a daily basis. I utilize computer programs that tailor to every students' individual learning needs. Furthermore, there are state-mandated computer programs as well as mandatory testing that is all completed online. These programs are designed to identify and help the teacher fix any learning gaps in a child's academic development. Consistent access to these programs is imperative to the child's academic success. In addition, these programs provide resources to challenge students at their individual academic level. The technological resource that I am requesting will ensure that every third grader will have an equal opportunity to advance and be successful in their education. Currently, I am sharing 30 computers with 3 other classrooms. Therefore, I only have enough computers for 6-7 students to use at one time. This does not allow for consistent access and practices for my students. Today's third graders are expected to know how to type, click, and drag, and seamlessly utilize other computer tools in order to be prepared for PARCC, our state-mandated test. Having consistent access to their own Chromebook would ensure that they would ALL be able to use these tools and be confident going into their first time taking the PARCC test.
