Our classroom is looking to fund the a design project where children can interact in play outside, experience natural elements and be creative engineers. In our classroom, we have added Reggio Emilia inspired materials that invite children to explore and discover using found and recycled materials that are in our environment and in our homes. This has been beneficial for our parents and children making learning connections, for parents to see what learning possibilities lie in nature and how materials they use everyday and can find in their homes are invaluable instructional tools. We would like to build a natural teepee, a space where children can interact socially, develop friendship skills, and engage in pretend imaginative games together. We are interested in creating a teepee for our children to interact in on our playground. Children will be able to engage in pretend play and explore together acting out real-life scenarios in their teepee. This teepee will look natural covered with vines and fabric so children feel like they are exploring in a natural setting. This will be a cozy, enclosed spot for hiding and pretending. This type of play is so important for children's healthy development, a space to build social skills, develop their imaginations, negotiate friendships and make connections. This would be an invaluable feature in our playground for children to enjoy. The teepee is being designed and executed by visiting designers and it is expensive so we would be offsetting the cost with a Donors Choose donation.
