As a first year teacher, I am looking to expand and diversify my classroom library. Books such as Viva Friday, The Day of the Dead / El Dia De Los Muertos: A Bilingual Celebration, and Mango, Abuela, and Me will help to celebrate the strong hispanic heritage in my classroom. My students' reading levels range immensely, and I do not have near enough books to encompass each students' reading level and interests. Graphic novels provide excellent visual support for struggling readers, so books such as A Wrinkle in Time: A Graphic Novel and The Dog-Man series would be fantastic for a majority of my students! Many of my students live in poverty and do not have access to quality reading material at home, and we do not have a school library either. With that being said, my personal classroom library is such an important resource for my students! All books will be used for independent student reading during our Reader's Workshop and Daily Five time, as well as class read-alouds. I have chosen books that have strong discussion points and themes that students can learn from as well-- my students and I cannot wait to have a thriving classroom library!
