I work in a Title I school where students have a low socioeconomic status and almost 100% get free or reduced lunches. Harvey also had a great impact on these children’s homes so they do not have supplies at home to improve in their skills. A lot of parents are barely receiving the help they need. Parents play such an important role in students lives, but when they are worried about their home, car, or next meal, students’ learning comes second which has impacted them dramatically. I am trying to help these students by getting books at their level because they are very low. If I can receive books at their level I will be able to differentiate their instruction and start to help them improve so they can be successful in school. These books can be used during stations or small group to help them gain confidence in reading and improve their reading level and skills. Books like, Adding and Subtracting at the Lake will help them.
