This project is to replace our traditional classroom chairs with versatile flexible seating options. By providing students the opportunity to have a choice in seating, I am empowering them to have a personal leadership role in the classroom every day. I would like to enhance and improve our learning environment for students. Diverse seating options meet the students at their developmental level to scaffold learning experiences that best meet their individual needs. Research proves that a stimulating and inviting learning environment enhances the educational process. Students take ownership of their learning space when they are proud of it. These seating options will provide students a chance to choose if they would prefer to wiggle in their seat, to share a bench, or sit in an elevated seating position while learning rather than being asked to sit in a hard,rigid chair or directly on the floor. These not only teach students to be aware of their personal space, but also to be aware of their individually-changing needs. The bright primary colors selected are visually stimulating, but not overwhelming so as to be distracting for young learners.
