As an adult when you go home to read or do work, do you find it most comfortable to sit in a hard plastic chair? For some of you maybe, but for others you have many places you can go. You could sit on a couch, in a comfy chair, or even on the floor. If we don't expect adults to be uncomfortable when completing tasks, why should we expect students to sit in hard plastic chairs for many hours every day? I believe my students should have choices in where they best experience their learning! We already have a few flexible seating options in our class and my students love them. Some options I have picked for additional flexible seating are pillows, wobble cushions, laptop desks, a comfy chair, and fidget bands. We already have a few pillows in our class and they are a huge hit. My students are always asking to do their work on the floor. Laptop desks will be a perfect surface for students to get work done on. I also have many students with ADHD that need to be constantly moving. These fidget bands will allow them to move, but still focus on their work. Giving my students choice in the classroom helps them take ownership and create a stronger classroom community. I know flexible seating will help strengthen our community!
