My amazing 5th grade students need recorders to continue increasing the playing technique and music theory they started learning in 4th grade. Having recorders allows each student to experience playing a wind instrument alone and in an ensemble. Recorders are proven to be one of the best beginning instruments to learn on because students work to be able to combine their breath, tongue, and fingers to create beautiful tone. Continuing to play recorders in 5th grade will allow my students the time they need to increase their ability to have controlled breath, create better tone, learn to listen to each-other as an ensemble, and to become more aware of how they interpret the music artistically. With your help, my 5th grade students will become better musicians.
