We are living in unprecedented times. Our students are surviving a world pandemic. There has been a significant loss of instruction because of this catastrophic event. The fourth and fifth grade students have been dealing with the burden of that learning loss. My project would put high interest, engaging books in the hands of students to read this summer while at home. The effort will arm them with the materials they need to sustain their efforts in closing the learning gap perpetrated on their education through no fault of their own. Loss of reading skills over the summer or "summer slide" as it is often referred to, is real and detrimental to student achievement. Now it is even more pronounced due to the loss of instruction because of COVID.
