There are two different book sets that I am requesting for my 8th grade readers. The first is "And Then There Were None" which is a murder mystery written in the late 1930s that drives character analysis, observation of setting propelling the plot, and also allows for foreshadowing thought and predictions. It also is just a really great book and students that I have taught in years past have always had a lot of by-in and are actually excited about reading! Books allow for students to travel out of their own experience and negative circumstances for some, and the ability to escape into the enjoyment and entrapment of a well written book. The other book set I am requesting is "Animal Farm". Not only because it is classic literature, but also because I believe that all of my students will benefit from it. Animal Farm's Lexile score and vocabulary is actually quit remedial, and yet the themes and satire are very mature and require great analysis. Therefore, regardless of the reading level abilities, all of my students will gain something from this literature exposure.
