Our school building was constructed decades ago and physically cannot house the teachers and students much longer. We are a flexible, innovative group of people, and we have done our best to utilize every space in the building. We have teachers working with students in closets, hallways, and corners of classrooms. Our library has become a crucial part of our daily learning, but we do not have the furniture to adequately work with both staff and students. A Learning Lounge will help teachers learn and grow in their practice, and it will also be used to pull small groups of students in order to increase potential for a successful future. Tables, chairs, rugs, and dividers are all needed to make this happen. We are currently using the library for teacher professional development, offices for coaches, as well as using it for a space to teach small groups of students for targeted instruction. If we are able to create a space for everyone to work cohesively together, we have the potential to really make an impact on both teachers and students!
