Recycling, A Daily Way of Life in the Middle will educate students and staff about the importance and benefits of recycling. Our students will promote and pursue the actual recycling of paper, plastic bottles and aluminum cans at our school... This would be an interdisciplinary lesson that educates students about the environment, energy, waste management, working as a team, and community and personal responsibility. Extensive education will occur in the school; from what to put in the new recycling bins requested with this project, to understanding landfills, jobs affected by recycling and the future of the environment. Education would occur through all grades' Science and Social Studies classes. Students will write and create newscasts, announcements and posters in Communications classes to promote recycling. The student team would be set up for collecting items in grades, offices, and other locations. Items for collection will be specified and days of the collection will be determined as well…picked up by students in an orderly and sanitary fashion. These new recycling bins will be an integral part of a permanent effort by all students and teachers to recycle at our school.
