First graders love to wiggle and move. By giving them flexible seating options, they are able to stay seated longer and maintain focus in the classroom. My students would be able to remove themselves to a place in the classroom where they could focus and maintain attention to their work without having to worry about tipping on their chairs. Flexible seating allows my students to wobble, bounce, lean and even stand. All of these activities increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. These actions burn more calories and increase the child's metabolism. Increased blood flow and oxygen helps to keep their minds alert and focused.
