Every single student has some type of music potential, and as our program grows, our aim should be to provide a viable music option for as many students as possible. While great music skills can be and should be taught with the voice alone, many students find great fulfillment in the novelty of learning instruments. A full set of boomwhackers is a fun and challenging instrument for an entire class to play, particularly the 7th & 8th graders. It provides yet another instrumental skill beyond singing to fulfill all of the other music instruction that students receive. Not to mention, it requires a great sense of timing and coordination for the entire group. A djembe drum offers a broad spectrum percussion option that meets the needs of many choral arrangments. Recording equipment can make all of the difference when submitting recordings for auditions - whether they be for honor choirs or colleges. Finally, the voice recorders provide a means of assessing students on the individual level without forcing them to sing by themselves. Too many students face the make-or-break moment of having to sing alone in front of the entire choir for a "singing-test" when the whole point of being in a choir is to be part of the group. By holding a recorder in front of them, the teacher can grade at a later time and can have multiple opportunities to listening, a huge improvement over having a student sing the passage alone, repeatedly. All of the requested equipment supports the music learning process in a manner that will last from year-to-year.
