Students will learn intricate patterns and add shape, shade, shadow, and volume to the work. They will also create 5 unique patterns of their own. Once they master the art of pencil control, use of line, and shading techniques, they will produce a 10” x 10” design that demonstrates intentional mastery of line, shape, shade, shadow, volume, and pattern. Their first project is a combination of drawing and shading. It is step one on the way to portraiture. We need good pens for this. I am unable to ask for lab fees because of a new law in California, so your help is greatly appreciated! This assignment incorporates skills that students will use to ultimately produce a lifelike self-portrait. Since portraiture is terrifying to any fledgling artist, beginning with baby steps assured success. This project embeds everything they need to know to achieve outstanding and satisfying results.
