As a School Counselor, I need play-doh in order to help the students with relaxation. While the students are having fun being creative with the play-doh, they often forget the stressful situation that brought them to my office. Once they are calm, it allows me the opportunity to engage with them in conversation and get to the root of the problem. I will use the fuzzy balls with my students who tend to get anxious. Providing them with sensory manipulatives helps to bring the anxiety levels down and help them focus on learning. The feelings and emotion flipbooks will help me explore different solutions to emotional or feelings issues with my students while providing a visual to every scenario. The anger management cards will be a good way to help my students navigate their negative emotions in a fun and positive way. The thoughts and feelings card will help me initiate conversations with the students in order to explore their feelings more thoroughly in a fun, non-invasive way. The mindfulness matters game will help me teach my students how to become aware of their own feelings and what strategies to use to cope with life stresses. Finally, the choices jar game will help me initiate conversations with my student while exploring choices and consequences for their behavior. All in all, as a School Counselor I need materials that help students resolve problems in various areas such as social, academic and emotional. At the same time, I work with students of different ages and grade levels making it almost impossible for me as a School Counselor to be able to afford all of these materials that cover a wide range of student needs, ages and grade levels.
