On November 20 we will have a classroom event entitled Father's Morning (or other significant male in the child's life). During this time the fathers will engage with their students in early literacy activities. At the end of the event we would like to send home a book with every child. The male students will receive the book Just me and my Dad by Mercer Meyer and the female students will receive the book Please Baby Please by Spike Lee. We will also take pictures during the event. The pictures will be combined in a slide show and DVD that will be given to each child. A positive male figure is often missing in the lives of children in poverty. This project will give fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other positive male figures an opportunity to engage in learning with their children. Our students' lives will be changed for the better by having positive males involved in their education.
