At a time when technology is advancing so fast adults have difficulty keeping up, it is an absolute necessity that students know how to use and are familiar with current technologies. Because of their low socioeconomic situations at home and at school, my students continue to fall farther and farther behind. Most students at my school do not have a computer at home. If they are lucky enough to have a computer at home, it is most often outdated and does not have Internet access. This means that the majority, if not all, of their experiences with technology occur at school. Most of my students are on free and reduced lunch, and the government categorizes them as students of high poverty. It is these students who are at the greatest risk of being left behind in this technology wave. If they remain so drastically behind in their understanding of technology, their opportunities in the future will be severely limited.
